Tonight’s Town Council Meeting

For those of you that missed it you can catch up on Carolyn’s streamed meeting:http://ustre.am/VlS1

Some highlights:

Big complaints:

fb captureSnow Removal – there were the HAVE’s and HAVENOT’s in snow removal. To see some of the drama go to Highlands New Jersey FB page (UPDATE: the poster on FB took the thread down. The gist was that people didn’t have their roads plowed and were given incorrect numbers to call for resolution)

and Garbage Pick up some one from Gravely asked about Garbage Pickup during snow.. Couldn’t there be some “communication” on the town web site to let residents know when garbage would be picked up when there is a snow event. The day after, the next pick up day?? When? Tim Hill threw it back on the garbage guys for non-communication. — The whole point that THEY have NOTHING to do with their communication between the town and residents eluded him. Either that or it was a pass the buck situation.

Would You Like To Know When Trash Pick Up Is in a Snow Event?

  1. I realize now I should tape and photograph everything so truth will prevail and issues and concerns won’t be easily dismissed. I didn’t appreciate council closing meeting and not allowing me to ask other questions that I had. Extremely disrespectful behavior on their part as I made it clear I had more questions. I would like to see the OEM & town plans for the various storm events on the municipal website so I know what services to expect? I would like to know if there are plans to address our streets(sinking or buckling)? I would like to know why knowing this ice storm was coming and snow melting that drains were not cleared off proactively instead reactively forcing people to address individually. I would like to know after someone is fined for code enforcement and still nothing is done to correct what is next course of action? Mr Francy was kind enough after meeting to answer where we stood on Army Corp Project(they will be back Mid-Feb) and if there was peer review on flood mitigation(no they decided to proceed as is).

    • @Tricia – We were shocked when council  voted to close the meeting while you were repeating “I’m not finished”.  I’m going to check the feed and see if you can be heard.  I hope they just didn’t hear you and this was NOT a dismissive, passive aggressive move.

    • It seemed like they were in a rush to get out of there. It seemed like most people got one question & they moved on.

    • Yet another town’s web site that makes ours look like it was designed on Angelfire. Middletown is so well laid out. I wonder if we had an “employment” link on our site if those seasonal winter jobs would have gone to other residents instead of the same names I keep seeing over & over.

  2. My garbage doesn’t get picked up, our streets don’t get cleared and continue to flood, our town leadership won’t answer questions, why do we pay taxes? Where does the money go? To hell with all of them.

  4. The meeting was sad, it truly showed how the council and mayor are not in touch with the public. The mayor closing the meeting and out the door they went. I saw council members meeting after meeting texting during the meeting, do they have more important things to do? “Put it on the web page” is the new standard BS answer, the web page sucks! Kane statement to Kim that there are only 2 Champions doing anything, yet no advisory meeting? I can keep going on with examples but the point is as I have stated before “Poor leadership equals poor results”

  5. How very disturbing! And yes ” poor leadership equals poor results” ….but that’s what the majority voted for!

    • Actually, the mayor didn’t win a majority (51%) of votes. He received 43.55% based on the 628 votes he received divided by total ballots cast of 1,442 which assumes that everyone that cast a vote did vote in the mayoral race.*

I keep my fingers crossed that there are some quality candidates running for Becky’s & Chris’s seats in May. Unfortunately I’ve got this silly job thing getting in my way.

    • Oh thou so afraid of posting with thy own name, care to elaborate on what makes Chris and Becky so “not quality”? If you really think they are so awful and unworthy of holding the position of council person why do you keep insisting on hiding your identity? Was it because you were so uncomfortable last night?

    • Why? Because they have been on council for years and this town is no better today than it was 10 years ago. You can blame the storms all you want, but the town was stagnating well before Irene & Sandy. It’s time for some new leadership. Council members that will listen to the residents and get things done; not pay lip service to their requests.

    • It’s clearly evident that part time council members are not cutting it. I’m sure the level of service was fine a few years ago but between Irene and Sandy this town needs a lot more to get it back to being the thriving water side village it can be.

My holding down two jobs is not an excuse. It’s a reason. I am trying to contribute as much of my time as I can to move this town forward. More often than not I get the feeling from the council that my time and expertise is not wanted. The council may say that they want input from the residents but actions speak louder than words.

  6. The best way to describe what is going on is to quote a very smart, dignified, professional women.

    • The exact quote is actually “Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining:” Sorry wouldn’t want to misquote the Judge:) Pretty much sums it up for me.

    • Dear Stacy,
a)I really hate crushing your bubble, but I stood up in a recorded council meeting and already outed myself, so you’d be a little late.
b)The only reason I knew you posted something *here* is because someone texted me to look. its 3:20 pm in CA and I’m still working
      c) people vent anonymously for many different reasons. Why do you give a rats ass if they do or don’t?
      d) why don’t you spell your name correctly on your FB account?
      e) who anointed you Queen of all Internet postings and said Ye Shall Give Unsolicited Comments on Everyone in Highlands.

PS the Highlands New Jersey Facebook is a public forum.
PSPS I don’t know if you knew this, but just because you don’t agree with someone’s post you are under no obligation to respond to it.

    • Oh so that’s why you defend every action or non action. Your partial cause your friends makes perfect sense not like you actually care about right and wrong? Seriously Stacy? When you post on social media it becomes public domain its not your picture. Don’t post if you don’t like the rules and most people don’t take kindly to threats so I would be very careful about that. What is your real name?

    • You want to “out” me? Go ahead. What I post here isn’t anything secret and it isn’t rumor mongering. It’s not defamatory as some of your posts about our mayor have been. Besides, I’m sure if people are as smart as they think they are, they probably already know who I am.

If you out me, you might want to think about what that says about your character.

  8. I’m at the zoning board meeting, this town makes it so hard to do business in this town, never mind the flooding. 😦
