What about the joint on the side of the Driftwood? It’s had so many different names I can’t remember what it was called last.

Last time I checked….it was open before the storm, but that was a lifetime ago! I know they lasted longer than most of the other pizza joints in that spot and they had some real bratty kids passing out flyers for it over the summer.

Hey …I know this is totally off topic but just wondering if anybody on this blog actually had their insurance company pay for permits as we were told? Just would like to know if at all true?

Mine won’t.. One of my estimates I put in from a contractor had permit fees added in to the overall cost as a separate lined item and the adjuster pulled that out. don’t know if this is *all* insurance companies or just some.

Ditto! But since Paul from Construction told me they would, I’m sure the boro will be happy to reimburse me for his misinformation.

RockemSockem – my flood insurance broker told me absolutely no permits would be paid through flood insurance. My homeowner’s insurance is definitely not going to pay for them because they say everything is due to flood. It may be a case by case/company by company basis, but I haven’t heard anyone get permits paid to date. Good Luck!

Well either way….it’s almost impossible to find pizza or an ice cream stand/Italian ice place anywhere in Monmouth County!

I grew up in Highlands and my mom still lives there (actually right now she is displaced). In any event, whenever I would visit her, she would know what I wanted – plain pizza from Francesco’s (I even asked them to open a place here in Northern Virginia before the storm). I’ve been visiting her a lot since the storm trying to get her house rebuilt and have tried many a pizzeria. The pizza was okay but I can’t wait to visit so I can get pizza from Francesco’s (and see my mom too).

Thanks for your responses regarding permits… mine didn’t pay for permits either and I believe completely untrue and so wrong for our town officials to sock it to us when we are down. If you want my money just be honest don’t make up that insurance pays for them. The only reason to lie is cause it’s they know its wrong to do to people in this position.

Good Lord, this is like trying to follow comments from a Yahoo article. With all that is going on in Highlands concerning Sandy issues, it might be helpful to keep a running Sandy blog where people can find useful info. I have passed on some good suggestions to people, but the last place a new reader will look for this information would be within a pizza article or that a-hole who killed his own dog. Worth a thought.

Really? Have you looked at Yahoo lately? Are you that starved for a compliment? I wouldn’t be so quick to consider it one.

I would love to, but I not the best person to do so. I take the good info I find on here and pass it along to some friends in need. I myself, do not have the answers most people are looking for. And correct me if I am wrong RS, but this is not a MAB.

MAB? We have all shared ideas with friends in need from this blog thanks to HB…it’s just don’t feel it’s helpful to criticize the exchange of questions or ideas no matter where they are on this blog.

My intention was not to criticize, my apologies. I was offering a useful suggestion. A friend of mine asked me where I received the info and when she looked on here she couldn’t find it, but it may have been under a different article. I could be wrong, but I believe it was you who suggested in the past a place to share ideas for the folks in need would be helpful because nobody knows what is going on. I agree with that and I think this suggestion would be a great action item.

With all the offices/websites that are being named for not having enough information, the traffic on this blog would increase by many if it became known for a site to read easily accessible useful information for people who need it. And the more people, the greater chance for useful info. Now I understand this isn’t my blog, but that doesn’t make it a bad suggestion.

An MAB allows multiple users to create posts, which was my initial point of making a running general Sandy post to streamline the info and people can use the reply function to post.

My apologies if I misunderstood your post. Intentions can sometimes get lost in this kind of communication. All good:) RS

Every time a business, particularly an eatery reopens, it’s a good thing. Just hope others follow suit.

It was mentioned on another post, but it is worth mentioning again. Giorgio’s red clam is awesome, but my fav was always the scallops fra diavolo over angel hair from the special board. Delish.

You must be new! (said a native sarcastically!)

Girogio owns the restaurant and has since the early 80’s IIRC. He stopped running it when his wife got sick.

Yes I am “new” (I’ve lived here less than 100 years and my grandmother wasn’t on the Half Moon with Henry Hudson), but not exactly new enough to know that EVERY TIME a “native” says that, they’re being sarcastic!

And yet….I’m constantly accused of making sarcastic comments!

      And P.S.

Please forgive me if I have other things to do than sit on a bar stool all day at Katz’s or Bahr’s!

It would be hard to find.. the number changed b/c the other owners had it under their name and shut it off, so Giorgio had to get a new number, if you look online most places still have the other #
