Crime in New Jersey rose by 3 percent in 2011, according to the 2011 Uniform Crime Report recently released by state officials. Overall crime in Highlands wasn’t any different year over year.
Violent crimes were down though. That’s with a decreased number of officers. (Down from 18 to 16)
The map (Courtesy of njspotlight.com) shows the overall crime rate by municipality last year for 2011.
Historically, poor economic times have led to increased crime, so next year it will be interesting to see how current economic times added with natural disaster (Sandy) contributes to Highlands stats.
The rate includes seven index crimes: murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault in the violent crimes category and burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft in the nonviolent crimes category.
