Two Boats Collide off Sandy Hook

The U.S. Coast Guard stated there were two people pulled from the waters of Sandy Hook Bay after two boats collided on the water, causing one of the vessels to capsize shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon near Spermaceti cove.  Authorities say a 25-foot pleasure boat and a 30-foot cabin cruiser were involved.  Spermaceti Cove  is a small cove on the bay side of Sandy Hook by Skeleton & Plum islands. Many boats anchor there on weekends to sunbathe and socialize.

The two rescued people, had been aboard the pleasure boat, and picked up by Tow Boat U.S., a commercial salvage company. One was later flown to a hospital, but further information on their condition was not available.

Two people aboard the other boat were not reported to be injured.
