Swimmer rescued off Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook lifeguards had to come to the aid of a distressed swimmer in waters off South Beach (Area D) Sunday afternoon.

Officials say the 62-year-old man had been swimming about 30 yards out in the ocean when the lifeguards noticed he had suddenly stopped swimming.

The man was reported to be conscious when he was pulled from the water around 12:30 p.m. He was then taken to the hospital.
