Happy Belated Birthday Sandy Hook

The Gateway National Recreation Area, aka Sandy Hook, was created by Congress 40 years ago in July 1972. the Jersey peninsula was discovered by Henry Hudson and, historically, has been a convenient anchorage for ships before proceeding into Upper New York Harbor.

Stars of Sandy Hook

7/21, 8:30-10pm, Meet at the Lighthouse Keeper’s Quarters

Learn to read a star chart and join rangers for a “star hopping” trip. Telescopes will be provided, call (732) 872-5970 for reservations.

Annual All-Women Lifeguard Tournament

Audubon Society Bird Walk

7/26, 6-8pm, Visitor Center Parking Lot Pack your binoculars for an evening hike to see the birds of the hook.

Campfire on the Beach

7/27, 7:30-9:30pm, Visitor Center
