Upset in Highlands Primary

Incumbent Councilman Rick O’Neil (of Navesink Avenue) who received 125 votes came up 12 votes short in a three-way race for two Republican Party slots in November’s Borough Council election.

Victors Bill Byrne, of Eastpoint Condos, received 155 votes and Sherry Ruby, of Grand Tour, received 137 votes.

On election day in November Bill Byrne and Ruby will run against Democrats Kevin Redmond, the other incumbent, and Joanne Keenan for two three-year seats. Redmond and Keenan received 98 and 86 votes, respectively.
